Chandigarh sees 20% growth in GST collection in February

CHANDIGARH: With business activities returning to normal, tax collection has also started picking up in the city. The value of Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collected in UT in February stood at Rs 178 crore, 20% higher than the revenue generated in the corresponding period last year.

According to the ministry of finance, GST collection in the UT stood at Rs 178 crore in February, whereas the city received revenue of Rs 149 crore during the same period last year. The Chandigarh administration has already lifted most Covid restrictions.

GST collection in Chandigarh stood at Rs 164 crore in December last year, 4% more than Rs 158 crore collected during the same month in 2020. However, in November last year, GST collection swelled to Rs 180 crore, 27% higher than Rs141 crore collected during the same month in 2020.

In October last year, GST collection was Rs 158 crore, which was also 4% higher than the Rs 152 crore tax generated in October 2020. Tax collection in September was recorded at Rs 152 crore, 8% higher than the GST of Rs 141 crore generated during the same month in 2020.

 

In August last year, GST collection was Rs 144 crore, an increase of 4% on Rs 139 crore tax received during the corresponding period in 2020.
